Originally from Council Bluffs, IA, Jena completed her Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering in 2016 from the University of Iowa. She then moved to Columbus, OH where she was a research assistant in Dr. Dean Lee's lab at Nationwide Children's Hospital, studying NK cells for the treatment of cancer. In August 2019, she moved to Madison and began her PhD in the Cancer Biology Graduate Program at UW-Madison. Jena joined the McNeel lab in December of 2019, and her project involves DNA vaccines in combination with immune checkpoint blockade.
